If you’re meeting Elyn for the first time, you wouldn’t believe it when she tells you she’s a mother of two young children. The founder of Rawsome believes in a healthy lifestyle that encompasses both eating and exercising right and applies those very same principles in her business. Rawsome’s journey began in June 2015 with its signature organic chia seed puddings. Today, there are 30 pudding varieties to choose from, cold-pressed juices plus a wholesome selection of mains like salads, quinoa wraps and buddha bowls.
Elyn’s drive stems from her desire to help people, especially women, change their lifestyles which is why the Rawsome HQ located at T6 Sungai Buloh, includes a spacious yoga studio on the upper level. Classes are priced between RM10-RM20 only in the hopes that it would encourage people to pursue yoga. Rawsome has a second outlet in MyTOWN Shopping Centre with a third one coming in May. With so much going on, Elyn still manages to stick true to her principles and that deserves R-E-S-P-E-C-T! We chat a little with her to find out more about her journey with Rawsome.
1. Tell us a little bit about your personal path to building Rawsome.
I have sweet tooth and my family has a history of diabetes. As I grew older, I noticed that my sugar level was always borderline despite me working out regularly. It then hit me that what we put into our bodies is really crucial so I started changing my diet and habits. When I saw the change in me, I thought, “Hey, I need to let the world know,” and that’s how Rawsome came to be.
2. What are the challenges you faced starting Rawsome?
So many. Competition especially but also because we started from zero with no background, no experience, no help, we really had to go all the way to get our brand out there – joining every bazaar, event and also sponsoring everything related to health, wellness and active lifestyles. We did that for 2 years non-stop .
3. How do you take care of yourself every day so that you stay balanced and centered?
I try to eat right and also maintain an active lifestyle. I work out almost every day which keeps me sane with this current hectic schedule that I have.
4. What specific advice would you have for young women who would like to become an entrepreneur?
Never quit your day job because there are no guarantees. Do it as a passion until you really know the business in and out.
5. Are there specific advantages, disadvantages to being a women business owner?
I don’t think there are any disadvantages. I only see advantages; confidence and competition.
